Now, in our 30th year, Paratext is launching a new research application—bird: Base Inventory of Research Databases.
Work on bird began in 2021 to analyze, organize, and describe in painstaking detail the vast ecosystem of commercial and Open-Access scholarly databases that researchers use in academic and large public libraries.
Now in our 30th year, Paratext is launching a new research application—bird: Base Inventory of Research Databases.
With 8,500+ resources identified thus far, bird gives researchers the widest field of view. bird lets you imagine, discover and design a research journey that transcends disciplines and predictable paths.
Designed and created by research librarians—in concert with Paratext’s three decades of organizing and integrating scholarly data—bird is a resource that’s long been needed. bird is also defined by what it is not; It is not an aggregation of existing descriptions; or another bibliographic utility, or a 'screen-scraping' operation.
bird is a publishing initiative from Paratext, developed to fill an important opening in the mosaic of scholarly information.
Product development began in late 2021. The editorial collaboration for bird represents decades of bibliographic, collection development, and reference expertise by information professionals with deep knowledge of what it takes to support student and faculty research.
bird is being offered for a short while at pre-publication pricing. Visit birdofparatext.com to learn more about BIRD and pre-publication pricing.
